Josseli was 17 weeks pregnant and experiencing a miscarriage when she arrived at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest on September 3, 2021. For 40 hours, doctors told her family they had to wait, that intervening would be a crime under Texas law. She died three days later of sepsis. Her death was reviewed by more than a dozen medical experts, all of whom agreed her care violated professional standards. She left behind a daughter.
Cause of death: Sepsis due to acute bacterial endometritis following delayed emergency care during miscarriage
