Tierra was a 37-year-old dental assistant and mother of two. She had been in fragile health for months — high blood pressure, diabetes, seizures — when she became pregnant in 2024. She was hospitalized at Methodist Hospital Northeast, where her condition slowly worsened. On October 14, 2024, she asked her doctor whether it would be safer to end the pregnancy. The doctor told her there was no emergency. Over the months that followed, more than 90 doctors were involved in her care. Not one offered her the option to end the pregnancy. She died at 20 weeks pregnant. Her autopsy confirmed preeclampsia killed her. Her son found her body on his 14th birthday, December 30, 2024. More than a dozen OB-GYN specialists who reviewed her case agreed her death was preventable.
